How to volunteer for LOCAL Outreach Projects

 

  1. Pray that God would show where you are to serve.
  2. You are responsible to contact the local ministry and arrange the time/date of your outreach project.

About: Harvest Home is a nonprofit, nondenominational, full-programmed residential home that is Christ-centered and dedicated to meeting the needs of women in crisis pregnancy, regardless of race, religion, or nationality. The purpose of Harvest Home is to provide love and care to each woman, offering a stable environment where her physical, emotional, and spiritual needs can be met. The ultimate goal is that each woman will leave the home spiritually strong, with a new-found sense of self worth, and better prepared to support and care for herself and her child.

About: L.A. Family Housing helps homeless families and individuals rebuild their lives through an integrated system of housing and supportive services.

Volunteer Opportunities: Help prepare and serve meals to residents, create arts & crafts, sporting activities, storytelling, beautify premises by painting or gardening, sort donations, clerical office support, teaching, and tutoring.

About: New Directions offers a wide array of services, including substance abuse treatment, job training and placement, parenting and money management classes, legal and financial assistance, counseling, remedial education and resources for alumni.  Clients leave New Directions with a job, housing, a savings account, computer skills, renewed self confidence and the support of mentors and peers.  Such a transformation takes hard work, motivation and accountability, but the results are life-altering -- and for many veterans, life-saving.

About: "Church of the Open Air" (Isaiah 55:1-3) with a focus on reaching the homeless with the saving Gospel of Jesus in the "homeless capitol of the world"--Santa Monica and Venice Beach, CA, offering free hot meals with a sound sermon on salvation weekly with over 100 homeless attending on Sunday afternoons.

Volunteer Opportunities: Just show up and help Hector feed the homeless. Hector provides a service for them, reading them the Gospel, on Thursdays at 3:00 pm, as well as Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm in the Pacific Palisades Park on at Ocean and Arizona.

About Vista: Vista Del Mar offers a comprehensive range of social and psychological services that include psychiatric residential treatment, day treatment, individual and family counseling, medical and dental services provided on site by doctors and registered nurses, community treatment units, educational and vocational services, foster care, and complete adoption services.

Volunteer Opportunities: WSOTH hosts a quarterly birthday party for the middle school and high school aged children that live on the campus, the next celebration will take place March 24. In addition, WSOTH would like to host a Basketball Clinic in May. About WPC: Westside Pregnancy Clinic (WPC) provides positive alternatives to unplanned pregnancies, working to meet both the needs of the woman and her child.  Services include pregnancy and ultrasound testing, referrals, peer counseling, and maternity and baby supplies.  Additional programs offered are: post abortion recovery, sexual integrity, HIV and other STD testing, and counseling for both men and women.  All services are provided free of charge.

Volunteer Opportunities: RN’s to administer pregnancy tests, RN’s with limited obstetric ultrasound skills, Volunteers with Medi-Cal billing experience, Volunteers interested in counseling (online or in the office), Local Moms to serve as mentors (phone calls, monthly visits to our clients), Single dads to lead support groups or serve as mentors to young men.

Adopt-A-Block-Every Saturday morning at 10am go out into the neighborhoods to clean, paint, minister and pray to show the love of Christ.  Please contact Kelly Frick at 213.253.7083.

Hope for Homeless Youth-reach the unreachable.  You are able to talk to the street kids of LA, to minister to pimps, prostitutes and gang members.  Please contact Luke @ 213.590.9825 or h4hy@hotmail.com

Hotel Outreach is an outreach specifically designed for teams.  Go to downtown Los Angeles and minister to the kids of the Frontier Hotel.

Metro Kidz -travel to housing projects and reaches out to hundreds of children to give the message of Christ.  They use topics such as "Staying in School," "Anti-Drugs,” and "Anti-Gangs” to reach the hearts of the kids they minister to.  If you are interested, please call Olga at 213.273.7111.

Provisions Food Truck-This is an opportunity to meet the physical needs of the poor and homeless by delivering food to various sites and giving hope to the desolate people of Los Angeles.  Please call Mickey at 213.273.7042.

Under the Bridge is a ministry in which the volunteers make 300 sandwiches a day and hand deliver them to the hungry and homeless huddled under the bridges.  Please call Chris Van Winkle at 213.435.3624.

The Fred Jordan mission is a non-profit organization that meets the physical and spiritual needs of the poor and the lost on the streets of Skid Row.  If you are interested in serving, please contact Vanessa, Volunteer Coordinator.

Emergency Services -On Mondays– Saturdays from 8 am - 3:30 pm volunteers will have opportunities to serve by distributing food, clothing, and personal hygiene products.  In addition, Fred Jordan Mission also provides health care services.

After School Program -On Tuesdays - Thursdays, 4 pm - 7 pm, help minister to children and youth as well as assist in the praise and worship.  Volunteers also have opportunities to teach bible study, tutor, computer lessons, or arts and crafts.

Special Events -The Fred Jordan Mission hosts a variety of different events in which the poor of the community are invited to share in the joy of the Holiday seasons.

Easter Feast -Help feed the homeless individuals and families with a special Easter meal.

Mother's Day -Help with gift wrapping presents for mothers, as well as help serve the special dinner that is held in honor of forgotten mothers.

Back to School Days -Volunteers are needed to help pass out new outfits, shoes, and school supplies to thousands of poor children in the inner city of Los Angeles.

Thanksgiving Volunteers -Needed to help serve a traditional Thanksgiving dinner to the poor and hungry of Los Angeles.

Christmas Party -Thousands of needy children and their families receive new toys, sacks of food, and blankets.  Come and join us to help distribute these items during the Christmas Party.
